LAST MONTH ON PS PLUS

-

We started June by asking “What year is it…?” No, we weren’t making a lockdown joke – we’re as sick of those as you are. We’d just resurfaced, bleary-eyed in the summer sun, after a month immersed in May’s slew of simulation games. June’s lineup offered two more birds of a feather but strayed far away from the month before’s theme of building and growing.

June was all about war games, in two distinct flavours: space wizard fantasy or gritty and vaguely historically grounded. We are, of course, referring to and

Dropping early, this latter title from Sledgehammer Games and Activision followed frontline fighter Ronald ‘Red’ Daniels and his squad mates. Taking inspiration from the historical events of Operation Overlord (or the Battle Of Normandy), the campaign attempted to prune its more videogame-y aspects to create a more grounded feel. For instance, health didn’t auto-regenerate and instead you had to patch yourself up or rely on the medic in your squad to get you back on your feet. But don’t worry, outside of the campaign mode there was still the multiplayer and Nazi zombies. If you wanted to fling ‘gritty and grounded’ far, far away, did PS Plus have the space wizard deathmatch for you. Featuring locales, heroes, and villains from across the galaxy, Battlefront II gave you plenty to get stuck into with friends who may also be, ahem, far, far away. (Okay, we think we’ve got that out of our system now.) There was a wealth of game modes on offer, but of all of them, we really enjoyed Ewok Hunt. Trust us on this one, it was a surprisingly spooky treat. Unfortunately, we’re still trying to figure out how to get the stains out of the bright, white armour our rebel forces have since, ahem, ‘procured’.
