PS Now for something completely different

-

Hello Neighbor came to PS Now, spearheading the PlayStation Indies division’s presence on the platform, with Shuhei Yoshida promising “a new indie title will join the PlayStation Now service every month”. Street Fighter V was also added, along with Watch Dogs 2 (until 5 Oct).

Well, we’ve finally got a release date for the delayed Watch Dogs

Legion (AKA Watch Dogs 3: The Brexit One), meaning now is a very good time to hop into Watch Dogs’ second entry, which has quietly remained one of the best open world games on PS4 for some time. Following hacker Marcus Holloway as he joins the San Francisco branch of DedSec and takes part in their fight to prevent people being controlled via technology, it’s a story with a lot of heart. What’s more, it doesn’t pull punches with how it deals with Marcus’ race, showcasing how he’s been racially profiled by the hightech society around him, and how the other misfits in his crew also suffer under the same system.

It’s not always elegant, and the writing can be patchy (who loves technobabble? Not us!) but it does a heck of a lot more than most of other games and it’s really gripping for it. If anything, we’re disappointed the Watch Dogs 2 gang aren’t returning in Legion, as far as we know – we’d have loved to see the likes of Wrench and Sitara again. Plus, the stealth hacking allows for really smart, stealthy remote play (don’t bother with the mediocre shooting – hacking is way more fun), and it seems that Cyberpunk 2077 will operate in a similar way, so get used to thinking about hacks now while you can!

The first Watch Dogs is not on PS Now. But don’t worry about that. It was a solid 7/10, but Watch Dogs 2 is better

and it’s standalone, and has all the hacking fun you’ll ever need.
