Which PS5 game are our team most looking forward to?

just one more question… the team debate this month’s burning issue

EDITOR LOOK BEHIND THE OBVIOUS SEQUELS; THERE ARE SOME INNOVATIVE GAMES COMING TO PS5.

We can all agree that Horizon Forbidden West, Spider-Man Miles Morales, and Gran Turismo 7 are must-plays on PS5, but for myself

I’m looking behind the headline-grabbers at some of the console’s more interesting games. Housemarque’s retroinspired shooters have always impressed. The idea the studio will be embracing its bullet hell heritage, binding it to an SSD-powered soulsborne structure, and lavishing next-gen cinematics over the whole thing, is enticing. I love the vintage functional sci-fi style too, which shows the developer hasn’t lost its love of retro ideas.

STAFF WRITER I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO

THIS MONSTER MASH; MARK MY WORDS, IT’LL BE A GRAVEYARD SMASH.

This might surprise you, seeing as I let the seventh mainline game and the last two remakes pass me by, but I’m actually really looking forward to Resident Evil Village’s very particular brand of hospitality. Going full-tilt into gothic horror looks right up my dark, foreboding (and werewolf-infested) alley. But let me be clear, I’m not expecting this to be Bloodborne 2. I have no doubt that everything will have a darkly comedic, action-oriented edge and I’m definitely looking forward to whatever textbook wackiness Capcom injects into its take on the genre.

OSCAR TAYLOR-KENT

GAMES EDITOR RATCHET AND CLANK ARE RIGHT BACK WHERE THEY SHOULD BE.

One of the best things about PS5’s lineup is that not every game is overly mature and grim. There is a great mix of cartoony indies in among the shooters. The first-party return of Ratchet & Clank feels like a great way to get introduced to PS5. Sure, it’s cartoon in style, but the slick shooting and world-tearing rift-jumping pace really showcases how the new tech can be utilised within gameplay – perhaps the best of the PS5 games we’ve seen so far. More than anything it just brings a smile to my face to see the duo returning in a brand-new, from-theground-up game, ridiculous arsenal of comical weapons in tow.

OPERATIONS EDITOR IT’S CUTE AND COLOURFUL AND SLIGHTLY CREEPY – MAKE MINE A BAG OF BUGSNAX.

Bugsnax immediately grabbed my attention during Sony’s presentation. The colourful, googly-eyed characters looked fun. (Who couldn’t love a rib-millipede or a baguette snake?) The theme tune, by Kero Kero Bonito, was a real earworm. And even more mouthwatering than a semi-sentient strawberry is the news that this is going to be an adventure game. I’m hoping that consuming the bugsnax has a similar effect to swapping identity in a Lego game, unleashing new abilities and allowing us to access new areas and solve puzzles. That’d be a tasty treat indeed.
