MARVEL’S SPIDER-MAN MILES MORALES

The young hero’s getting his own adventure

-

Announced at Sony’s Future Of Gaming event in June, Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales confused many: is it a sequel? An expansion? A spin-off? Brian Horton, Insomniac’s creative director on the game, confirmed it’s a standalone entry, and has since shared more details of Miles’ adventure.

Set after the events of the first game, this Miles Morales-focused romp is similar in length to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which puts it at around eight to ten hours.

SCARY TALE OF NEW YORK

The developer clarified the game is set just before Christmas, as snow falls across New York and good cheer is replaced by fear. Designed to expand PlayStation’s Marvel’s Spider-Man universe, it introduces Miles in full alongside new villians delivered with Insomniac and Marvel’s cinematic punch.

We revealed last issue that Miles’ game will use PS5’s SSD for splitsecond loading and ray tracing, while the DualSense controller will deliver tactile web-swinging and crunchy combat. Horton has since stated the game’s graphics are being overhauled on PS5, with characters re-rendered using 4D scans, the city’s assets updated, and spline-based hair tech employed to ensure incredible realism.

Horton revealed the first game’s director, Bryan Intihar, is planning Peter Parker’s return to PlayStation, as well as the broader Spider-Man universe, teasing a sequel: “It’s been great to also work with Bryan Intihar […] as he continues to imagine big things for the Marvel’s Spider-Man universe,” he said on the PS blog.
