Godfall makes DualSense
PS5’s loot-slasher will make the console sing
04
Weapon clashes will feel unique in Counterplay Games’ PS5 exclusive, Godfall. It makes the most of PS5’s DualSense controller, and its stereo vibration and adaptive triggers, meaning you’ll feel the sensation of your weapon hitting an enemy’s. You’ll be able to sense how it resonates in your hands as if you were holding the hulking blade.
Likewise the game will make use of the new controller’s haptic feedback to enable you to feel every surface. An attack move to slide across the ground will vibrate through the DualSense uniquely depending on the surface. It will feel differently if you’re knee-skimming into an enemy across gravel, water, marble, or sand.
GOD OF GOD
In terms of what happens when those weapons clash, Godfall has more in common with God Of War and Devil May Cry 5 than a classic soulsborne. Combat is less about duels and more focussed on the power fantasy of juggling and controlling multiple enemies.
Likewise, loot isn’t here to boost stats but, as in Monster Hunter: World, is designed to enhance different weapons and combat styles. There are 12 Valorplates to equip, each a kind of class with its own buffs, stats, and Archon ability – a chargeable special attack.
The structure of the game also recalls Capcom’s monster slayer. From The Seventh Sanctum, a space where you can upgrade and craft gear and weapons, you enter Story missions, narrative-led brawls checkpointed by minor and major boss battles, and Hunts, which are bespoke missions to track and defeat special bosses. Both enable you to build a character capable of ascending the Skybreaker Monolith and defeating the mad god at its peak. We’re ready to climb.
