LAST MONTH ON PS PLUS
PS Plus kickstarts the PS5 era in style, as we get the highly anticipated
Bugsnsax – remember that tune – for free (your PS4 friends will need to buy it). Complementing the cute creature fun of this PS5 adventure are two more bug-packed games on PS4.
Bugsnax’s surprise arrival on PS Plus suggests Sony has big plans for the service when it comes to delivering
PS5 games – Triple-A car-fighter Destruction AllStars has already been confirmed as a freebie for February. Unusual and whimiscal, Bugsnax was a perfect alternative to PS5’s launch-day marathon of action and combat games.
Trying to tempt us from Snaktooth Island and its 100 different edible creatures was PS4’s classic: Middle
Earth: Shadow of War. This followup to Shadow Of Mordor was set between the events of Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings. You were Talion, a ranger infused with the spirit of the elf lord Celebrimbor, and enemy to a lot of unfriendly orcs thanks to an expanded Nemesis system. Okay, orcs aren’t actually bugs, but you still faced an infestation of the blighters. This version of the game followed the unlikely duo into their final confrontation with Sauron but included none of the post-game DLC. From the volcanic vistas of Mordor to the dark crevices of Hallownest, Hollow
Knight: Voidheart Edition was the second PS4 title to make it to PS Plus. You were one tiny bug battling all the horrors harboured deep within the Earth in this endearingly creepy metroidvania. But unlike Shadow Of War, this version of the game included all four massive content packs to wriggle your way through. We may be past the month of celebrating the creepy and the crawly but, as we gave it 9/10 back in issue #155, we’d argue this one deserves a place on your dashboard all year round.
