STILL PLAYING
Games that continue to hold our attention
I’ve already found a giant electric hammer and a shotgun that shoots icy swords.
MultiVersus Oscar Taylor-Kent covets the unknown (to him)
Cake The Cat is finally mine. She is, I’m told, an in-universe fanfiction genderflip of Jake The Dog. Here she’s a skin for the Adventure Time character. I’ve spent far too many hours completing mindless tasks, sometimes against bots, like doing a certain number of ringouts in a specific way.
All for a limited-time skin of a character I know little about but who controls well. Don’t get me wrong, the brawling is a blast, but I’m not sure this reward loop is good for my brain. Perhaps it’s time to stop. But what skin could be next?
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Dashiell Wood is back through the looking glass
I expected my return to Wonderlands to feel a little stale, but a string of good luck with its randomly-generated loot system has made my latest campaign feel even fresher than the last. I’ve already found a giant electric hammer and a shotgun that shoots icy swords – and, every time I think I’ve seen everything the game has to offer, it throws an even wackier weapon my way. My only complaint? With a constant stream of awesome new gear coming at me, it’s hard to hang on to my favourites.
Mr. Driller Drill Land Jess Kinghorn is not, as the kids say, ‘digging it’
After dipping the drill bit into PlayStation classic Mr. Driller last month, I thought I’d found my mechanical happy place. Checking out this 2021 rerelease is a different story. The theme park premise is charming – but oh, was I a fool to play on the original 2002 release’s difficulty setting! It’s only through completing each game mode that you win tickets to spend and, much like an oversized plush at a fairground, I have no practical use for the gift shop’s trading cards or souvenirs but I need them!
