MYST
A BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO THE PUZZLE ISLAND
Never explored the Miller brothers’ brainteasing creation? Here’s a quick intro to the game itself.
Using a first-person view, Myst plonks players into an interactive world. You move by clicking q or “zipping” (skipping previously-seen locations to move faster.)
So what exactly is going on? Myst refuses to give you any obvious objectives or explanations, preferring that you find out things for yourself. The situation’s this: you are the Stranger, you find a curious book titled “Myst”… about an island called Myst. Touching it teleports you to the isle.
Your goal? To escape by finding the missing pages of, er, more books. The clues you find transport you via “linking books” to four different “Ages” (read: worlds). Often, objects you pick up one Age will be needed in a puzzle in another Age. Tricky.
There are several endings to see, depending on your interactions with some mysterious brothers.
