The halogen whirl of the Anti-Gravity Racing League is PlayStation through and through. From developing precise muscle memory for every track to an entrancing electro soundtrack to drinking in the console-pushing visuals, it’s always been the standard bearer for punishingly moreish futuristic racing. It also means that a new WipEout is a showcase for what a PlayStation console can do. A remaster might feel at odds with that, but Sony XDev Producer Mark O’Connor explains how 4K graphics push the series forward, “We’ve got a mix of textures in there now, we’ve got full-screen bloom, we’ve got better anti-aliasing, we have heat haze on the back of the ships. There’s just little things that we can add now that kind of are subtle but they just enhance the experience.”

Bundling together WipEout HD, Fury, and 2048, you’ll have plenty of tracks to zoom through, and the inclusion of a split-screen mode ensures that its roots aren’t being forgotten. Hopefully this victory lap will pave the way for a new model on PS4.
