At its best, EA’s MMA sim is an enjoyable spectacle – that’s not in doubt. It’s simple enough to enable some ferocious fights, and there’s a queasy satisfaction in taking down an online opponent. But your options for doing this online are limited. There’s a quick match option, which is handy for helping newcomers to get their bearings, and an online divisions mode where you can fight your way to a title shot. There’s also Ultimate Team, a modified version of what’s so popular in FIFA and Madden, where you fight to earn cards and build a roster of brawlers to batter offline and online opposition with. The complexities of that mode make it less than accessible, but with no other UFC games on PS4 this just about gets the job done.

VERDICT

A decent offering that provides more gratification than offline play, but feels a little limited compared to other EA Sports games. Ben Tyrer
