2014 could well prove to be Zdeněk Štybar’s breakthrough season in the Classics on the road and he only added weight to that notion with a superb victory ahead of Sven Nys at the Cyclo-cross Worlds in Holland. Capitalising on several mistakes by the defending champion on the final lap, Štybar cut himself free and soloed to victory. It was the powerful Czech rider’s third world title and his first since 2011, the season he switched his focus to the road with Quick-Step.
