The issue here isn’t so much what’s happened to date but what very well might happen soon. In considering Sheikh Mohammed’s involvement, we need first look at precedent. He owns the biggest horse racing stud empire in the world, so if he’s bitten by the cycling bug we can expect hitherto unimaginable levels of investment and, along with that, quite conceivably colossal changes in the landscape of the sport.
