He’s only a second-year pro, but the young Frenchman has been prolific this season, and his team speak extremely highly of his ability. The hardest thing, they say, is holding him back. Calmejane is still finding his way as a pro, and he’s yet to make a big breakthrough in a WorldTour event – his best so far this year has been 10th in the final stage of Paris-Nice. But he’s established an effective modus operandi in the smaller stage races – in each of the Étoile de Bessèges, Settimana Coppi e Bartali and Circuit de la Sarthe, he has taken a single stage and the GC, to give him a total of six victories.
