Alejandro Valverde was as dominant in the hilly Classics as Greg Van Avermaet was on the cobbles. While he faded to 19th place in Amstel Gold, a race he has curiously never won, he was first in both Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. We’ve looked at the results over these three races, and added up all the riders’ best two results. Valverde tops the table with an unbeatable two points, but Dan Martin, twice second to the Spaniard, is not far behind. Meanwhile, Micha¯ Kwiatkowski and Michael Albasini were the only two riders to achieve top 10s in all three events, while Van Avermaet rounded off a spectacular spring by also gatecrashing the final top 10 of hilly Classics riders.
