BARGUIL ON BERNARD HINAULT

Being from Brittany, Barguil is often described as the ‘next Bernard Hinault’. Barguil’s grown weary of the comparison but it’s not soured his reverence of the Badger. “It was a di ferent time, a di ferent sport, but Hinault’s a legend. He won so many races with his character, not just the legs. Sometimes he was not strong enough, but the head was just saying, ‘ You have to make it’, and he made it. It’s really impressive. When I saw him in Paris-Nice on stage 2 when it was really windy and raining I saw him and told him I really liked a day like that. He said he did too! Where we come from we like it when it’s windy and rainy.”
