VOECKLER AT THE TOUR
Thomas Voeckler became the darling of the French public when he got into a break in the 2004 race and took the yellow jersey, stoutly defending it for 10 days before the inevitable onslaught of Lance Armstrong in the Alps. A constant attacker, he was as famous for getting into breaks as for winning, but started seeing success in the Tour from 2009. He won a stage that year, just holding o f the bunch in Perpignan. The next year, he won a mountain stage in Luchon. His high point came in 2011 when he again took yellow in a break in the Massif Central, but defended it through the Pyrenees and deep into the Alps, slipping to fourth overall in Paris. In 2012 he reverted to type, winning two stages but also the King of the Mountains Classi ication.
