This has the classic scenario of a long day out for the break only to be gobbled up by an angry peloton just before the end written all over it. A third day at over 200km means little at this level, there’ll still be many candidates willing to take their chances in the inevitable escape that the sprinters teams might not get their sums right. The GC riders will be planning for a quiet day hence it’ll be up to the fast men to marshal the troops and keep everything under control. Easier said than done.
