The move to an evening finish on the ChampsÉlysées has to be one of the more successful updates to the Tour. The sights and sounds are all the more spectacular for it and that’s what this stage is all about: spectacle.
As a rider it’s an amazing experience even when you are suffering and for the crowds it’s wondrous to witness the speed the survivors can ride at after three weeks of racing. It’s no surprise this is considered the most prestigious place to win for the sprinters. It’s mega, mega fast.
