TREK SEGAFREDO

-

Time is running out for Alberto

Contador to add to his two Tour wins. Now 34, he’s been in good form for his new team this year, coming second in four spring stage races. But the Tour is a different animal, and as well as avoiding the crashes that led to his early exit in 2014 and 2016, he’ll have to get creative to best Froome and Quintana. Look out for long-range attacks, his speciality since he stopped being the world’s strongest GT rider. Bauke Mollema, likely tired from the Giro, and 2016 stage winner Jarlinson Pantano provide support, while sprinter John Degenkolb is after his first Tour stage win after five second places. He’s won 10 times at the Vuelta but doesn’t have the speed for the pure bunch kicks – he’ll be looking to the tough, rolling stages.

TOUR PALMARÈS

Only three stage wins in its six appearances (as Leopard, Radioshack then Trek), but it was second and third overall in 2011 with the Schleck brothers, took the teams classi ication in 2012 and spent a lot of time in the yellow jersey with Fabian Cancellara.
