Favourite place to ride (and why)? Switzerland in the summer. It’s a beautiful place; green, an incredible landscape with great mountains but also many lakes. On a beautiful day I can easily ride ive hours and feel no pain here. What’s the best piece of racing advice you’ve received? My father always told me that I should always give my very best in every race. If I still lose then there was nothing more I could do about it. That takes pressure for me away and I can focus on a race. Race you would most like to win (and why)? It’s the World Championships. To wear this jersey is the dream of every cyclist. To be able to wear the world champion’s rainbow stripes for the rest of your career is like becoming a member of the royal cycling family. Tell us about your hardest regular training session and what you do. Sprint training, especially when I have long sprints on the plan. You only ride for two or 2.5 hours, but at the end you are just tired and it’s a ight to get home.

Set against the green landscape and mountains, Switzerland’s winding roads are a favourite of Marcel Kittel Where’s your favourite café stop and what’s its speciality? When I’m in Girona and I’m doing a ride along the coast I usually stop in Platja d’Aro at the café called Dulce Pikika. The chocolate cakes they make come straight from heaven and ill you up for the last hours of your ride. Describe the perfect o f-season. A beach holiday for 10 days with no plans. Afterwards, some easy time back at home with friends and family. I don´t want to hear anything about cycling in that time.
