VAN VLEUTEN’S TOP RACING MOMENTS SO FAR
2008
After finishing 15th in her first national TT championships the year before, Van Vleuten signs for Dutch pro team Vrienden van het platteland aged 26, and starts road racing in Europe.
2009
Moves to DSB Bank-Nederland bloeit (now CCC-Liv) and rides in support of their star rider, Marianne Vos. Vos wins eight races with Van Vleuten alongside her including Trofeo Binda.
2010
Breaks through with her first pro race wins, first at Eurocup Ronde van Drenthe, then a stage of Gracia- Orlová, Emakumeen Bira and La Route de France, where she also wins the GC title.
2011
Secures her first major victory at the Tour of Flanders, beating Tatiana Antoshina in a two-up sprint. Follows it with more top-ranking wins at Open Suede Vårgårda and GP Plouay.
2012
Enjoys her most prolific season yet, winning nine races that includes what is still her only Dutch national road title ahead of her trade team-mate Vos. Makes her Olympics debut in London.
2013
Wins three races, but struggles with an old injury returning in a left-leg artery that leaves her unable to produce high power. Has a second surgery at the end of the year to fix things.
2014
Wins her first stages at the Giro Rosa: the prologue to take the first leader’s jersey and stage 3’s uphill finish. But crashes while preparing for the Worlds TT in Ponferrada and breaks her foot.
2015
Joins Bigla Pro Cycling and wins the prologues at Emakumeen Bira and the Giro. Yet her season comes to a premature end when she’s hit by a car while training in Livigno, Italy.
2016
Joins Orica-AIS and targets the spring classics, but only manages a string of top 10s. Her season becomes defined by a horrific crash while in the lead and descending in the Rio Olympics RR.
2017
Enjoys one of her best years to date, with 11 wins that include two Giro stages and La Course atop the Col d’Izoard. Most significantly, wins a first world title in the time trial in Bergen.
2018
Wins her first Giro Rosa GC, finishing 4:12 clear of Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio and with three stage wins to her name. Retains her world TT title and tops the UCI Ranking at the end of the year.
2019
Wins Strade Bianche, Liège, the Giro Rosa for the second time and a first rainbow jersey in the Worlds road race, after an epic 100km solo ride to the finish line in Yorkshire.
