One&Only Cape Town, South Africa

When my friends are in town, I take them for a drink at… Asoka (asoka.za.com) in the city centre. There’s a great vibe and live music under an olive tree. A restaurant that’s really popular with locals is... Kloof Street House (kloofstreethouse.co.za). It’s like a Pandora’s box; you walk through and see the garden lit up with fairy lights, the library and quirky interiors, all tucked behind a magnificent Victorian façade. For a business meeting, I book... the stylish Vista Bar & Lounge at One&Only Cape Town (oneand onlyresorts.com). It offers the most gorgeous views of Table Mountain. If your meeting is later in the day, enjoy the wonderful afternoon tea. If you want to party, go to... Orphanage Cocktail Emporium (theorphanage.co.za). You can’t go wrong with its super-talented mixologists, a chic vintage interior and amazing music. This local haunt is a must. My favourite breakfast place is... Hemelhuijs (hemelhuijs.co.za) in the heart of Cape Town. It’s clear they have a passion for food. And there are always whimsical displays of fresh flowers and objets d’art. And for best coffee, I go to... Truth Coffee (truth.coffee) on Buitenkant Street. I like its steampunk look and feel. For a market experience, visit... Root44 Market (root44.co.za), held in the beautiful town of Stellenbosch, just outside of Cape Town. It takes place every Saturday and Sunday and you can pick up everything, from locally made jewellery and furniture to craft beer and slow food. If you’re visiting with your family, there’s a lovely play area for the young ones to enjoy. Designer fashion can be found at... V&A Waterfront (waterfront. co.za). The main mall houses international labels, while the Watershed section is where you can pick up pieces from local designers. And for vintage shopping, I recommend... Kalk Bay. This sleepy seaside village is lined with vintage shops selling curios, jewellery, furniture and more. And it’s where locals go. The picturesque town is perfect for snapping that #wishyouwerehere selfie. If it’s raining, visit... Two Oceans Aquarium (aquarium.co.za) to meet the rockhopper penguins; Bubbles is my favourite. The best daytrip is to... the Cape Winelands region, which is about an hour’s drive east of the city. Walk around the vineyards, try award-winning wines and then enjoy lunch at Delaire Graff Restaurant (delaire.co.za) or Vergelegen (vergelegen.co.za). It’s a great way to take in the beauty of the area. And for a safari experience, head to... Inverdoorn Game Reserve (inverdoorn.com) in the middle of the Karoo Desert, about two hours’ drive from Cape Town. You can spot the Big Five and visit the cheetah rehabilitation centre.
