“My first trip to Katherine was in 2015, when we were shooting Surfing the Menu: The Next
Generation. Since then I’ve longed to make it back there and to visit the Beswick community, which is just over an hour outside of Katherine.
Going to Beswick was a real eye-opener. It was a chance for me – a surf-loving city boy – to visit the real Australia, connect with Indigenous Australians and learn about what it means to them to live in such an amazing place.
I’ve always had this pull, this unexplained lust, to visit places like Katherine and its surroundings. It’s because of the people; their history, their struggles and their triumphs. It’s the smiles and the laughs, the sharing of knowledge and sharing of food. It’s making lifelong friends with people who are so similar in their love yet so different in their story.”
