Director Gurinder Chadha It’s 1947 and India’s last viceroy, Lord Mountbatten (Hugh Bonneville), and his wife, Edwina (Gillian Anderson), arrive in Delhi with good intentions and a fraught task: they must hand India back to its people, ending 300 years of British rule. As they negotiate the handover, assisted by the political elite, including Mahatma Gandhi (Neeraj Kabi), devastating conflict erupts between the country’s religious groups.
