With the exception of selfcontained homes, sophisticated accommodation in and around Berry was scarce until late last year, when Soul of Gerringong (soulofgerringong.com.au) opened its doors. A farmhouse dating to the 1800s, it has been meticulously restored by interior designer Simone Mathews and her builder husband, Ben, mirroring the coastal luxe vibe of Byron Bay with natural linens, timbers and lots of chill-out zones (including a pool). The “soul” of the property is The Farmhouse, a whitewashed oasis with a huge stone fireplace and skylights that flood the living and dining spaces with natural light at all times of the day.
