Ever So Clever

Who would have thought that little nylon ‘hooks’ clawing into fabric would be a useful or even possible way to close a jacket or secure a shoe (‘Accidents That Changed History’, May)? I suppose it makes sense then that the inspiration for Velcro’s creation was an accident. Either way, as someone who mastered tying shoe laces later than most, I’m very thankful for this particular invention.
