Huge ice reservoir discovered on Mars

-

NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance orbiter satellite has revealed a huge ice deposit. The deposit is 80-170 m thick and includes enough ice to fill the 82,350 km2 Lake Superior between Canada and the USA.

The ice is located under the Utopia Planitia, and it could prove very useful to future colonists. They will not only be able to use the ice as a drinking water source, they can also split it into oxygen and hydrogen, that can be used to power rocket engines. The ice deposit is easily accessible, as the plain is flat.
