March is named after the god of war, Mars. April Unknown, but Aprilis was Rome's second month. May & June are named after Maia & Juno (goddesses). July & August are named after Julius Caesar and Emperor Augustus. September, October, November & December mean the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th months. January & February were added later, named after Janus (god) and the februa festival of ritual purificati­on.
