Back in 1952, CO was the least of Lon­don’s 2 wor­ries. Weather plus pol­lu­tion com­bined to cre­ate a fog... a fog that could kill.

For peo­ple in Lon­don, “pea soup” smog has been a part of life for cen­turies. So, it was no sur­prise, when yel­low­ish black smoke shrouded the city for an en­tire week in De­cem­ber 1952. The cit­i­zens did not re­alise the grav­ity of the sit­u­a­tion, un­til it be­came dif­fi­cult to ob­tain enough coffins and flow­ers.
