Moon includes an ocean under its ice

-

Ever since Saturn's sixth largest moon, Enceladus, was discovered in 1789, the world has been known for its barren exterior, but Cassini has revealed that the moon probably has an ocean which could include life.

Cassini discovered that geyser-like clouds of ice particles are belched up to 500 km into the air from cracks in the ice of the southern hemisphere. The water ice could originate from a huge hidden ocean, which includes volcanic activity at its bottom. On Earth, liquid water guarantees life, and the discovery makes Enceladus one of the most likely places of the Solar System to include extraterrestrial life.
