“Only Women Become Hormonal”

Pregnant women can often seem dominated by hormones, but fathers brains are also affected.

Women are not the only ones on a hormonal roller coaster ride, when they have a family. Male hormone levels also change.

Canadian scientists measured the level of the prolactin hormone in 21 men two weeks before delivery and two months after. Moreover, they asked the fathers to answer questions indicating how much they worried about their kids. Scientists observed an increase in the level of prolactin before and after delivery.

Prolactin is produced in an area of the brain known as the pituitary gland, which controls social abilities. In women, the hormone regulates milk production, whereas it probably makes men more protective, strengthening the relationship with the baby, according to scientists.
