First CRISPR Experiment On Human Cells

-

2017

In the US and China, scientists are competing to be the first to cure cancer in humans by means of CRISPR. One strategy involves creating improved immune cells, which are able to kill the cancer tumour. Scientists insert the gene for the NY-ESO-1 receptor, which can recognise proteins on the surface of cancer cells. So, the immune cells can approach the tumour and defeat it.
