Tweak A Few Genes To Feed the Whole World

-

In only a few years, CRISPR could outdistance thousands of years of hard work with breeding high-yielding agricultural plants. Scientists will first identify the mutations which allow existing plants to develop many large grains, and subsequently, they will introduce the mutations into wild plants. By using wild plants with beneficial characteristics such as resistance to drought or pests, scientists can design die-hard super plants. The new plants can grow in droughtstricken regions, soon finishing large-scale famine.
