High-en­ergy space par­ti­cles are held on to by Earth’s mag­netic field in two dough­nut-shaped ra­di­a­tion belts around Earth: the Van Allen belts. They can ex­pand and ap­proach Earth, but the bub­ble seems to keep them at bay.
