Accelerating Expansion is an Optical Illusion
The universe is expanding – but the process is not getting faster all the time. The accelerating expansion is an illusion created by the universe itself.
According to traditional cosmology, dark energy made the expansion of the universe accelerate about six billion years ago. The physicists behind the theory believe that neither dark energy nor accelerating expansion exist.
According to classic astronomy, the universe geometry is flat, and the uniformity means that parallel light beams will always remain parallel. The theory means that the beams will never cross each other nor spread.
But according to the new theory, the geometry changed six billion years ago. Matter had collected in galaxy clusters around large empty voids, so the matter of the universe was very unevenly distributed. This bent space in a way, in which the parallel light beams began to spread across long distances. So, the present universe seems larger than it really is.
PROOF: To support the new theory, the expansion of space during the history of the universe must be mapped out in great detail. Astronomers' best tool will be the Euclid satellite, which is launched in 2020.
