Giant Cyclones Rage At The Poles
Juno has taken the first close-up pictures of the gas giant’s poles, and the astronomers are surprised to learn that they are not similar to Saturn’s poles or the rest of Jupiter, where the clouds create wide transverse bands. At the poles, the band structure breaks down and is replaced by lots of individual weather systems, where the most noticeable ones are cyclones with diameters of up to 1,400 km. This was a surprise to the astronomers, who had thought that the two poles would be similar to Saturn, the other giant of the Solar system. Here, huge twisters constantly whirl around both poles.
