Neutrinos are some of the most abundant elementary particles in the universe, but they are also very difficult to detect, as they rarely interact with other matter. The particles can only be captured in large tanks such as the two that are under construction at CERN. The cubes will be filled with argon and cooled to a temperature of -184 °C. Although they measure 12 x 12 m, they are just the forerunners of the more extensive DUNE experiment, which is to search for neutrinos in a 20 times bigger tank from 2026.
