Plants consume toxin
In recent years, scientists have become more aware of phyto-decontamination, by which plants dissolve or accumulate toxins in the ground. Some fern species can absorb arsenic in 100 times higher concentrations than in the contaminated soil. Other plant species such as poplars and willows can liberate chemicals via their roots, helping soil microorganisms break down crude oil, kerosene products, and more.
