Colour photos reveal hidden neutron star

200,000 years ago, a star died in our neighbouri­ng galaxy, the Small Magellanic Cloud, in an explosion that left a spectacula­r light show in many wavelength­s. Astronomer­s have combined images from several telescopes, allowing them to see the gases and the compact neutron star at the centre.
