GLOWWORM

Hungry larvae attract prey by means of shining bottom.

-

The hind part of the glowworm larva lights up, when luciferase reacts with oxygen in the creature’s bottom. The bluish green light attracts insects, which the larva captures in long, sticky silk threads. The hungrier the larva, the brighter the light.
