-

ARCTIC FOX 20,000 Down to -70 °C Less than 1 hour No

The arctic fox has the most insulating fur of all mammals. The hollow, white hairs contain air, which keeps out the cold and functions as camouflage in the snow-covered landscape. The fur cannot keep out water.

SEA OTTER 400,000 Down to 0 °C Several hours Yes

With up to 400,000 hairs per cm2, the sea otter's fur is completely waterproof and warm, but requires several hours of care every day. In comparison, humans typically have 200 hairs per cm2.
