DIVE IN…

Divers all around the world flock to Indonesia for its varied dive sites and biodiversity, and why not? With more than 17,000 islands making up the archipelago and over 50,000 kilometres of coastline surrounded by tropical seas, Indonesia is a paradise for divers and non-divers alike.

Sumatra’s location is in the west, facing the Indian ocean, appealing to intrepid divers simply because it offers a different distribution of marine species than anywhere else in the country. As we move east to the Lesser Sunda Islands, we find the classic diving hotspots of Bali, Lombok, Komodo and Flores.

Up in East Kalimantan, the Derawan Islands offer some amazing dive sites. Kakaban is home to one of the most unique: Its mangrove-fringed lake filled with thousands of non-stinging jellyfish. These jellyfish have lost their natural defense system because of the lack of major predators in the lake.

Further east, the legendary Raja

Ampat awaits. According to Conservation International, marine surveys suggest that the marine life diversity in Raja Ampat is the highest recorded on Earth.

Aside from Indonesia’s renowned dive spots, this culturally diverse nation boasts equally diverse culinary traditions. From the sweet to the spicy, there is something for every palate.
