Scuba Diver Australasia + Ocean Planet
EVOLUTION DIVING RESORT
Evolution is a cosy dive resort with top-of-the-line facilities for tech, trimix and CCR rebreather diving. As a business that prides itself in being progressive, it seeks to create quality divers with good skills and awareness for the environment, and their part in protecting it. Evolution ensures that they and their divers have minimal impact on the island where they are located, and that they adhere to the eco-friendly principles of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”.
REDUCE
Evolution has not used plastic straws in their restaurant for over five years.
The resort uses highly sustainable materials such as bamboo and other local materials.
Classes are conducted in eco-classrooms. These rooms are naturally ventilated by the cool ocean breeze and do not have air-conditioning installed. Cue cards are placed strategically in guest rooms to encourage guests to reduce their carbon footprint by turning off the lights, the air-conditioning, and reusing towels and bedding.
Refillable soap and shampoo containers are used in the bathrooms, while guests have an unlimited supply of water from refillable jugs.
Lampshades are made out of recycled cans and fixed with LED lightbulbs, more than doubling the lifetime of each bulb and reducing the electricity needed to power them.
Due to a lack of proper recycling facilities in the Philippines, only rechargeable batteries are used and guests are encouraged to bring home their used batteries where they can be properly recycled.
REUSE
Used detergent bottles are used as plant pots in the nursery.
Empty wine bottles are cut in half and used as light fittings.
The reception desk is made of old wood from discarded items such as boats and drying racks. Other items have been used to create underwater habitats for the local house reef.
RECYCLE
Biodegradable waste is composted and used for plants and fresh herb garden.
All used materials are separated and sent to proper recycling facilities off the island.
Used boat oil is returned to the mainland and recycled at the local petrol station.
