Rob Liefeld is getting ready for Deadpool 2 and X-Force
“You know I’m dead excited!” admits the Merc With the Mouth’s creator, Rob Liefeld, when Red Alert asks him about Deadpool 2. With Daredevil’s Drew Goddard joining Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick on scripting duties, John Wick’s David Leitch will helm the much-anticipated sequel after the departure of previous director Tim Miller.
“I love Tim, but he has left the production, so getting David Leitch was a great call in his absence,” says Liefeld. “I’m thrilled about the way the film is going to re-energise the Deadpool franchise.”
Liefeld recently suggested online that Russell Crowe should be considered for time-travelling mutant Cable, a role that Pierce Brosnan has also been linked with, while Atlanta’s Zazie Beetz is on board to play Domino. “The writers have been talking very liberally about how they’ve been enjoying portraying Cable in the Deadpool 2 screenplay and building towards X-Force,” says Liefeld, referring to the mutant black-ops super-team, X-Force, which Joe Carnahan (The A-Team) is reportedly set to direct.
“It’s going to be a great several years with Deadpool and X-Force alone, but we’ve really just scratched the surface,” he adds. “Deadpool 2 is going to be a giant romp, and then we’re going to start expanding that Liefeld corner of the Marvel Universe, and I can’t wait!”
Deadpool 2 will be released in 2018.
