IAN WHYTE

Wun Wun in Game Of Thrones

-

As one of the last giants in westeros, wun wun was always a reassuring presence given his gargantuan size and ability to rip apart white walkers. Loyally standing by Jon Snow’s side following the mutiny at Castle Black, wun wun died honourably after assisting the defeat of Ramsay Bolton’s army at winterfell. we chat to the 7’1” actor who embodied him.

Would you like to play the role again?

No. There wouldn’t be any point. He was a great character because he had a noble purpose. even if he’d survived, he probably would have wandered off into the sunset without batting an eyelid... a solitary nomad once more.

What’s the strangest request you’ve had from a fan?

I am occasionally asked to pose with the Iron Throne at fan events... I never sit on the Iron Throne, but I am honoured to be asked.

Would any of Wun Wun’s skills have been useful in real life?

His actions far outweighed his words. An attribute I greatly admire.

Is there anything you think was unfinished about Wun Wun’s story?

His story was always going to end at Winterfell, but the battle may have made more sense to him if he had lived just long enough to see Jon’s revenge on ramsay.

Is there anything from the show you wish was real?

I love the jaw-dropping vistas, topped by majestic castles. The eyrie and castle Pyke in particular... I love a castle with a personality!

What would it say on Wun Wun’s gravestone?

“Thol kif rukh!”
