a Dark song
released 7 april TBC | 99 minutes
Magic rituals have never looked as grim – or taken as much effort – as they do in A Dark Song. Essentially a two-hander between Steve Oram’s creepy occultist and Catherine Walker’s grieving mum, this tense chiller features a rite that takes months, involves gallons of salt, and has no guarantee of success.
It’s gruelling stuff, and could probably lose 15 minutes, but stick with it – the final reel’s not entirely satisfying, but it’s weird as hell. Sarah Dobbs
