It’s the time of year when US network execs earn their money, making a decision on which shows will live and die. Here’s the news…

New shows awarded a precious green light include “X-Men-inspired series that isn’t Legion” The Gifted, Seth MacFarlane’s Star Trek spoof The Orville, the latest addition to the Arrowverse, Black Lightning, and spiritual comedy Ghosted.

The grim reaper falls on Frequency, Powerless, making History and Son Of Zorn, all cancelled after just one season. Timeless was briefly axed, but subsequently renewed for a second year after fan outcry.

And all of the following shows are back for more (season number in brackets): Lucifer (3), The Exorcist (2), Once Upon A Time (7), Gotham (4), The Last man On Earth (4), The Flash (4), Arrow (6), Supergirl (3), Legends Of Tomorrow (3), Agents Of SHIELD (5), iZombie (4), The 100 (5) and Supernatural (13!).
