DOUBLE TROUBLE

Peter Parker and Miles Morales are climbing the walls together in Spider-Men 2

-

“With the legacy of Spider-Man there comes – brace yourself – a lot of responsibility!” According to Brian Michael Bendis, Spider-Men 2 will again examine what it means to be the Friendly Neighbourhood web-spinner as Peter Parker crosses paths with his Ultimate counterpart Miles Morales in a new five-issue mini-series.

“With that responsibility, it becomes larger than them as individuals and they have to reach out to each other for support,” says Bendis, admitting that much has changed between the two Spideys now that Miles has been integrated into Marvel’s main 616 universe.

“That’s going to be the backbone of what the new series is about. It’s not just about Peter responding to Miles, it’s also about how Miles is now here in the 616 and there’s not only Peter Parker but a baker’s dozen of pretty awesome Spider characters. So the question for Miles is going to be, ‘Am I a part of the Spider-Man legacy or should I maybe evolve?’”

Building on the first Spider-Men’s tantalising cliffhanger, Miles will learn the identity of his 616 counterpart before going on to meet his new girlfriend, who’s been designed and co-created by Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli. “We’re going to discover who the Miles is that Peter googled at the end of the first series, so my plan is that people are coming to see who the 616 Miles is and then they’re going to stay when we introduce the girlfriend,” laughs Bendis, not revealing details about exactly how Miles and Peter come to team up again.

“There’s a threat that really only they can handle, and it’s a threat that speaks directly to their legacy. We’re also going to delve more into the personal relationship between them, and by the end you’ll be surprised by where they end up together.”

Spider-Men 2 #1 is published on 12 July.
