WHITE RIOT

TALKING WALKERS

- Rob Power

The White Walkers, the icy sword of Damocles that’s been dangling over Westeros since Game Of Thrones began, are on the march, and this season look set to finally reach the Wall in force.

Thanks to Bran’s visions, we know a lot more about these ice-cold killers. Created by the Children of the Forest to protect them from men, and – in theory, at least – they can’t get past the Wall because of magic embedded deep within its colossal structure by Bran’s famous ancestor, Bran the Builder.

Yet when Bran was “touched” by the Night King, the White Walkers were able to locate the young Stark and break through defences that had previously kept them out. Bran’s link with their undead leader could provide the key through the Wall – and into Westeros.

So what happens now? We’d be willing to bet that Bran will head south, back over the Wall, accidentally opening the door for the White Walkers out in the process. Then, we’re at crisis point: will the Wall – and the North – fall? It feels very George RR Martin-esque to present an indestructible barrier only to, you know, destroy it. Maybe season seven is when the whole thing finally comes crashing down...

?? ?? White Walkers are like ice lollies... but not as sweet. We learned more about the mysterious leader of the Walkers in season six. Even the Night King was surprised at how tall Bran is now. Slow down, boy!
