The saddest thing about this supposedly last outing for Milla Jovovich’s Alice isn’t the hackneyed exposition, the ludicrous action sequences or even the jump cut-heavy scenes that feel like they’ve have been stapled together by someone suffering from the apocalyptic T-Virus. No, it’s the fact that people will blame videogames. While the last decade of gaming has delivered beautiful stories, Paul WS Anderson has driven his guiltily pleasurable movie franchise into the ground.
This lacklustre addition limps along like a zombie that’s been shot in the foot and a slew of barely connected setpieces make for dull viewing. Jovovich manages to embrace the ludicrous violence of the gun-toting Alice, but this is a movie so obsessed with tying up the franchise in a neat bow that it forgets what made it so much fun in the first place.
This could have been a victorious return; instead, The Final Chapter sees the franchise finally teetering into the bargain bin. Drivel.
